Critiques

Pierre Couchaux, an interior architect passionate about painting, has conserved his builder's enthusiasm for beautiful structures and stylishly masters very exact perspectives that are full of realism and clarity.

His work is superb, original, and steeped in a fascination for reflections and atmospheres that are always captivating and generous. With Pierre Couchaux, the seasons are differentiated by adjustments in the light surrounding the invigorating constructions. There is magic in the structures of his edifices in winter, and majestic power in his ever so simple motifs that are nevertheless revitalized through his careful analysis of dark and unusual effects in sky and water.

This is because Pierre Couchaux has learnt to innovatively convey these immaculate villages that are erected against a background of troubled sky or protected by a thick cluster of trees. But it is especially in his seascapes that his sensitivity and keen judgment regarding atmospheres can be seen. The high pictorial quality of this artist in tune with nature stems from an almost miraculous sense for colours and shades. These are in turn enhanced with light, poetry, and a reassuring and serene charm in skillfully-balanced compositions.
